Hi, I’m Charlene!

I’m a licensed mental health counselor and life coach whose passion is helping individuals overcome issues related to childhood trauma or abuse and/or navigate dysfunctional, toxic, abusive, or narcissistic relationships in adulthood.

After over 25 years in church work, with more than a decade of that as the director of a church counseling center, I have found myself increasingly burdened for individuals struggling with issues of identity, self-worth, depression, anxiety, abuse, trauma, relationship difficulties, or loss.

I am a Christian who is a licensed therapist. Many of my clients come from a Christian background because they want a therapist who understands their experiences and values. I have a heart for working with clients who have experienced church hurt, especially when attempting to navigate an abusive or narcissistic relationship. However, I welcome and enjoy respectfully working with individuals from all backgrounds.

It is my passion to help you experience the joy of inner healing that overflows into relationships and impacts future generations.

Work

My mission is to help individuals unearth the beauty and purpose in their stories, embrace their value, and step into a life of freedom and fulfillment.

While providing a safe place free of criticism, I will compassionately guide you towards confidence and joy in your relationship with God, self, and others.

Why I do this

My parents each grew up in homes where poverty, addiction, violence, and neglect were their daily norm. Their abusive upbringings, combined with our pastor’s fire-and-brimstone warnings that to spare the rod was to spoil the child, led to my childhood of walking on eggshells.

In early adulthood, I began a desperate search for answers and stumbled upon a book that made the scandalous claim that there was nothing I could do to make God love me any more or any less. Those words of grace and unconditional acceptance started me down a path of healing.

With the help of those in my life, I began to dig my way out of the lies that had kept me buried under a destructive past.

I long to help individuals with similar stories experience the freedom and healing that has changed my life.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself, just as I am, then I can change.
